Design from the peripheries of reality is a game developed with the support of DALL-E, an artificial intelligence algorithm capable of generating images based on text descriptions, and coordinated by artist Roberto Fassone.

During the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the Accademia Aldo Galli-IED Network will present the project Design from the peripheries of reality at the ADI Design Museum in Milan.

This project was coordinated by Carlotta Capobianco and Andrea Zucchi, Coordinators of the three-year course in Product Design at the Accademia Galli.

Roberto Fassone will lead “the game” in which he will discuss creative processes as well as the relationship between design and algorithm during a performance and workshop moment. The latter will involve not only Academy students, but also all Museum visitors and the public.

Design from the Peripheries of Reality has been developed using DALL-E, an artificial intelligence algorithm capable of generating images from text descriptions.
The aim of the game is to get the algorithm to generate an image as similar as possible to the one that the artist Roberto Fassone will generate during the opening day on 12 April at 4pm.

The public, in the following days, again through DALL-E, will be asked to generate an image. Those who come closest to the image generated by the artist will be awarded the Eclisse lamp, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965 and awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1967.

The prize will be awarded on 21 April at 4 pm during the closing workshop.

Anyone willing to participate can try their luck from 12 to 21 April 2023 at the ADI Museum, the Compasso d'Oro Museum.

All images produced by participants will be displayed until the winner has been announced and will be collected in a final publication.
